I'm the technology director in a small school district. We purchased these devices in 2013. I imaged them before last school year, with windows 8 on them, and even though imaging them is a bit difficult as Brad mentioned above, I was able to get it done building a custom wim and deploying through Microsoft Deployment Toolkit. Over this past summer, I built a custom Windows 8.1 wim file, and imaged the devices as well.

The school year started, and the devices are performing like the ones that Brad mentioned above, on startup, wireless shows a red x on the adapter. Low price new cpu cooling fan for mac. If I login as a 'cached' account and disable / re-enable the wifi adapter, it will connect, and as long as the device is not shutdown or restarted, it remains connected. If the device is shutdown or rebooted, the above procedure has to be performed again. I've played around with a few different things. I tried imaging them from a thumb drive, just to see if I goofed something up in my custom wim, still no luck. I've tried several versions of the wifi driver, no luck.

During my imaging process, I only create the one partition, which is an MBR I believe. So I tried switching it to where you create a 500 MB (EFI) partition, a 128 MB (MSR) partition, and then leaving the rest as the primary disk as suggested in the HP Elitepad Imaging Instructions PDF that HP had posted on their website over a year ago. Download eclipse for mac. This did not change anything either. I've also tried several versions of the bios, and to no avail. So I've basically had to login to these things as an admin this year, reset the wireless adapter, and then told the teachers and students 'just log out / sign off' instead of shutting down when you are done.

This has worked for the majority, but it definitely is not a fix. I have a few spares, so I decided to try the Windows 10 technical preview on two of them. No problems whatsoever, the wireless driver (which is the same one that is listed on the hp site for 8.1) works perfectly in Windows 10 technical preview. I've shut down / restarted over and over and over again and never does it lose network connectivity. Could someone please look into this or maybe talk to HP and figure out what is going on? We only purchased a one year warranty on our tablets, so mine are out of warranty, but anyone who may have taken the additional 3 year warranty, it would be great to pass this along to HP or something.

I just wanted to update this post with more information, and some of the things I've tried along the way.
